New Hampshire defense attorney explains nullification to jury

What are jury powers and how can they help?

Jurors in the U.S. have the power to vote "not guilty" in criminal trials if they believe the law is bad or punishment would be unfair...even if the defendant clearly broke the law! This is called "jury nullification." Learn more about your jury power and how to use it in our Powers, Resources, and Actions pages.

Does jury power work in today's world?

Yes, absolutely! Check out our website pages to see how jurors are bringing justice back into the courtroom.

How can I get involved?

Go to our Actions page for information about events and actions you can take to spread the world about jury power.

How does jury power change bad laws?

It can be a long process, but it has worked in the past and can work today. The Fugitive Slave Act and the Prohibition Amendment to the Constitution were both ultimately reversed because juries repeatedly refused to convict violators of those laws. When this happens, law enforcement stops arresting people and prosecutors stop trying them if they know juries will not convict the defendants. Check out our Powers and Resources pages as well as Successes and Blog for news.
